On Thursday 28th Nov, Rockpool Residential Aged Care hosted their first Aged Care Symposium for healthcare professionals and current/potential referrers. As our guests arrived they were able to go on guided tours of the residence to gain a better understanding of what makes Rockpool such a remarkable space. Bill Summers, Executive Chairman, kicked off the evening and explained why Rockpool is such an important step in Aged Care. Loretta Creevey, General Manager, introduced our speakers as delicious canapes and drinks were served to all. Tom Rynders (LLB) spoke about informed consent and decision making in healthcare touching on selected case studies and their legal outcomes. This lead into Dr. Frances Peart’s talk on the emotional labour of aged care that offered a different perspective on how those working in aged care could reflect on their interactions with patients. James Underwood (BComm) informed us all in detail about short term and respite care. Our final speaker, Clare Creevey (LLB) advised us of how to properly deal with complaints in a tactical and efficient way that benefits all parties involved. After a thank you to our guests and speakers the night came to a close with great results and positive feedback.
