Frequently Asked Questions
The decision to move to aged care can often be difficult and emotional – for all involved. At Rockpool, we help you to navigate the system and offer support, guidance, advice and friendship at every step.
Accessing Aged Care
There are a few different steps involved in accessing residential aged care. To begin with you or your loved one will need to have an ACAT assessment done to determine eligibility.
The Australian Department of Social Services has put together ‘The five steps to entry into an aged care’ home booklet. It takes you through the process and explains the many of the different considerations. Myagedcare.gov.au is also an excellent resource.
An ACAT assessment is an assessment of a person’s lifestyle and care needs to determine their eligibility for home or residential care. It is an essential part of accessing aged care.
The assessment is free and conducted by a member of the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) either at home, or in hospital (if the person is currently hospitalised).
To arrange an ACAT assessment contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or go to Myagedcare.gov.au
